How Disinfection Services Can Eliminate COVID-19

While you might be tired of reading the news and following the restrictions of COVID-19, the reality is that it is still and will continue to be a major part of our lives for a long time. While new vaccines are entering the horizon, governments still emphasize the importance of cleaning and disinfecting methods to keep your workers and others free from the risk of exposure to COVID-19.

Keep in mind that a combination of cleaning and disinfection still continues to be one of the most effective in removing the COVID-19 virus and keeping your community safe and healthy.

Cleaning and disinfecting come with their own rules and detailed instructions, though, that you should follow for the most effective results. Hence, without further ado let’s review all the essentials of cleaning and disinfecting along with their pros and cons.

Defining Cleaning and Disinfecting:

Cleaning generally refers to the practice of physically removing germs, bacteria, viruses, dirt and grime from various surfaces usually with the use of a detergent and water solutions.

At the same time, disinfecting means using special chemicals to kill germs on surfaces. Note that it is highly recommended to clean the surface before disinfecting because dirt and grime can reduce the ability of disinfectants to kill germs.

Hence, cleaning and disinfecting go hand in hand.

Areas of Focus For Cleaning and Disinfecting

Note from Hospeco: All of the frequently touched surfaces should be prioritised for cleaning. Such areas include but are not limited to tabletops, counters, door handles, light switches, elevator buttons, desks, toilets, taps, TV remotes, kitchen surfaces and cupboard handles, phones, and more.

Moreover, if there are any surfaces with visible dirt, they should be properly cleaned as soon as identified, regardless of the last time they were cleaned, to get the most effective results.

Additional tip from Hospeco: Try to clean and disinfect all the frequently touched areas of your office at least once a day. If you are having a lot of visitors and customers entering your office, more frequent disinfecting processes are highly recommended.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) of Australia developed a useful list of disinfectant products that are recognized as effective prevention methods against COVID-19.

Hospeco offers a wide range of cleaning and disinfecting products specifically designed to ensure a fresh, safe, and healthy environment for your workers.

How often should I do a routine clean?

Noticeably, regular cleaning is the centre stone of minimising the build-up of dust and dirt, followed by thorough disinfecting measures.

Be attentive that cleaning and disinfecting processes should also be done after an identified case of a person with COVID-19 at your workplace.

To know the detailed actions on how to act in case a COVID-19 infection has been identified in your office please make sure to check the following guide “What to do if a worker has COVID-19.”

Note from Hospeco: Follow this guidance on routine cleaning, and disinfection after an identified or suspected case of COVID-19.

Disinfectant fogging: Do I Need It?

To put it short, disinfectant fogging is a chemical application method that uses fine droplets of disinfectants to spray throughout a room in a fog. Importantly, the disinfectant should reach a certain concentration for a specific length of time to be effective.

In general, this method is not recommended for general use against COVID, because it introduces new health and safety risks in workplaces. Compared to this method, physical cleaning followed by a disinfecting process is the most effective recommendation.

Take into account, though, that in case you are already using fogging as part of your regular cleaning processes you should continue to do so.

Note from Hospeco: Chlorine and hydrogen peroxide-based products, that are present in disinfection fogging, can irritate the skin and eyes. Hence, some chemicals used in fogging solutions also raise work health and safety risks, which must be taken into account and managed by businesses.

In any given scenario, sufficient time should pass following the fogging process, for all the chemicals to disperse. This way workers returning to the office will not be exposed to hazardous chemicals.

COVID-19 still presents some serious health and safety risks that should be managed and prevented by businesses for the well being of their staff, visitors, and customers.

In general, cleaning and disinfecting is considered to be one of the most effective methods for the prevention of COVID-19 in your workplace, recommended by the state.

However, there are certain disinfecting solutions that can be harmful to the health and safety of your working community, that you should take into account.
